Rectus femoris muscle:
Definition: The rectus femoris muscle is the most superficial component of the four main quadriceps muscles. This muscle of the anterior thigh spans the knee and hip joints. It extends the knee and assists the iliopsoas in hip flexion. It also helps to stabilize the hip joint.
Origin: Anterior-inferior iliac spine and the groove superior to acetabulum
Insertion: The rectus femoris inserts into the quadriceps tendon about 3-5 cm proximal to the patella
Innervation: Femoral nerve
Blood supply: Femoral artery
