Semitendinosus muscle

Definition: The semitendinosus is an extensor of the thigh. It also functions to flex and rotate the leg medially.

Origin: Ischial tuberosity

Insertion: The pes anserinus is the final common insertion of the sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus on the proximal tibia. The semitendinosus traverses the thigh before it inserts onto the tibia by means of this confluent tendon.

Innervation: Sciatic nerve

Blood supply: Branches of the profunda femoris and popliteal arteries
