With
the knee over the side of the examining table, one hand stabilizes the thigh
while the other applies an external rotation force across the knee, through
the foot / ankle.
Indication
of a posterolateral knee injury is best visualized by tibial tubercle motion.
An increase of posterolateral rotation should be compared to the normal contralateral
side. Increases of 10° - 15° are indicative of a severe PLC injury.
Externally rotate the leg while watching for external
rotation of the tibia tubercle in relation to femur.
