The patellofemoral joint is a dynamic joint controlled by muscles, ligaments over the anterior knee, and joint alignment. It is influenced by the effect of tight hamstrings or a flexion contracture. For these reasons, it is important to assess the muscles of the thigh when patellofemoral joint problems are suspected.
